Magazines are very popular with boys. Even boys who say that "hate reading" are often seen reading magazines. The advantage with magazines is they can cover almost every interest.
A school library should have magazines that reflect a wide array of interest. Students will use the library more if their are magazines that reflect their interests. Boys like magazines that deal with humour, cars, motor cycles, skateboarding, biking and specific sports (such as ice hockey). Surprising Sports Illustrated is not as popular with reluctant male readers as I thought it would be. This may be because it covers a wide variety of sports and the reading level is a little higher than other magazines. Also Sports Illustrated does not cover X games.
