FROM CREATION TO INTEGRATION
Planning your web page
Know your audience.
Who is going to use the library web page ?
How are they going to use the web page ? At Adam Scott C.V.I.
- 60 % of students surveyed said they used the web page mainly for research
What type of look do you want (fun, professional, graphic)
?
Should students help you with the library web page (see below)
Considerations
- All the work for your page should be located under ONE
folder
- Keep a separate folder under your web page folder to hold
images
- All web page files including images should have not have
spaces in their file names
- All web file names should be in lower case
- Do the following before starting you library web page
- decide on what will be the main web pages before you
start creating them
- main page home
- research links page
- resources page
- student projects page
- teacher assignment page
- decide on the look, feel and colour scheme
- Avoid large graphics as they slow down your web page
- Make sure you know your board policy for posting images
of students and /or their names - see Adam
Scott C.V.I. permission form
- Limit you use of animated gifs, flash and sound
- Avoid files that need plug ins
- Consider security. Never give out server passwords to students.
- Avoid putting your professional or personal email address
on your web page - get a hotmail, gmail etc email address. Remember that if
some email's you you have to respond as it may be a parent. Posting your email
address can be problematic.
- keeping your web page simple will make it easer to update
- use the same font throughout
- do not use different coloured text except
for titles or important information
- avoid distracting background images
